First Weekend in Wales

Our first place we were aiming for was Ogmore by sea, it had been recommended as a good place to visit and it wasn’t too far. It also happened to be not too far from Bridgend, where our niece Sophie had recently moved to with her boyfriend Kieran. Sophie is in her final 6 months at Cardiff uni before she will qualify as a nurse. Due to covid and not living nearby we hadn’t actually seen Sophie since before she started Uni!

We found a place to stay from the Park 4 the Night app. It was a few miles from Ogmore by sea at a place called Southerndown. It was high up and had great views of the sea and the coves. Our neighbours in the field next to us were sheep. Here’s our view.

The neighbours and my swim spot sorted!

We stayed in this spot for 2 nights so basically the weekend. It actually got very busy with vans after we arrived so I think we were lucky, especially as the weather was just glorious.

We cycled down and had a look at the beach at Ogmore by sea it was very busy. We didn’t stay there but decided to cycle back and then cycle down to the beach the other way at Southerndown. It was a little bit quieter and I got to swim. There was an extremely steep slope to get down there which made us very grateful that we have electric bikes!

Here I am pre and poste swim

Sophie and Kieran came and picked us up so we could go and see their house and I took advantage and had a shower! Yes we do have a lovely shower in Jovanna but our water was getting low and I wanted to wash my hair! So Sophie to the rescue.

Here’s an after shower pic

On the way back to our spot next to the sheep we stopped at a lovely pub and had food there.

It was a great place to stop for a couple of days and I think we surprised Sophie who had no idea we were going to be in Wales!
