From North Wales we headed back down to Aberystwyth, mid a coastal town in mid Wales.
We arrived early on Saturday morning which meant there was an excellent place to park right on the seafront. It’s free parking but limited to 4 hours max on weekdays but no limits over the weekend.
On the first day we walked into town and then I persuaded Dee to walk round to the beach where I’d seen people swimming earlier. He sat on the wall whilst I went in. Whilst I was in the sea it started to rain and was slowly getting heavier!
I thought I should get out and then realised I couldn’t see Dee or my clothes! Eventually I found him and my clothes taking shelter under the bandstand! Phew! I walked back to Jovanna in a changing robe and got even more wet! I missed my swim buddie Louise back in Brighton who always entices us with Kit Kat’s poste swim when it rains!
It did rain a fair bit for the rest of the day so we stayed in the van and caught up with a few things.
Early the next morning I walked round to the bandstand and met some of The Aberystwyth Blue Tits. They usually swim early every morning.
It was still a grey morning with more rain threatening to happen! Only 2 Blue Tits came that day. As they know the beach I was happy to go with their thoughts about the sea and they felt it was too rough. I introduced them to ‘Pilcharding’
’Pilcharding’ is when you sit or lay on the shoreline and let the sea and the waves come to you. It’s better than nothing on a rough sea day although obviously not as good as being able to properly get in! But we always have to remember to respect the sea. It’s never worth the risk if you feel unsure. The sea is always there tomorrow! Something definitely worth remembering. I never realised that ‘Pilcharding’ is a ‘Brighton’ thing until then. My 2 new mermates were grateful to be introduced to ‘Pilcharding’. And yes bizarrely it was dry robe weather!

Whilst I sat in the van watching the rain and catching up with things I also discovered that Brighton was still hot sunshine around 30 degrees! That’s life I guess 🤣
On Monday morning I did manage to swim with the blue tits as the weather and the sea had cleared up!
