After Lowestoft we headed straight into Norfolk.

We drove round the Norfolk coast but apart from a quick lunch stop at Cromer we couldn’t really find anywhere to suitable to stay overnight.

I didn’t get to swim either as the waves looked a bit big when we stopped for lunch.

We headed to Hunstanton in North Norfolk, a place I’d never been up to before. I have friend’s in Kings Lynn, they used to live in Hunstanton but downsized and moved to Kings Lynn. We hadn’t seen them for a long time but we are in touch on social media and I know they are following our journey.

We stayed near Kings Lynn on Weds night and arranged to meet our friends in Hunstanton on Thurs afternoon . In Kings Lynn we bought some great storage solutions to stop things falling over in cupboards whilst we are moving . (I will be doing a separate post on this!)

Paul was keen to come swimming with me but he was working in the morning . We headed to Hunstanton ahead of schedule and found a great place to park up on a cliff overlooking the coast. Sadly parking was only allowed during the day and not overnight unless during the winter!

Although we could see the sea from where we were parked we couldn’t really see the beach or the coastline. To get to the beach we had to walk through a car park, where we met our friends. Suddenly there was a big expanse of lovely sandy beach and it definitely looked like the tide was out!

When I said to Paul “Oh it’s low tide” he replied “ Oh no! This isn’t low tide, it gets much lower than this! I was surprised. Here we are going into the sea

Off we went, we walked and walked but the water just didn’t seem to get beyond the top of our thighs! I did attempt to swim a bit but found my hand hit the bottom! I attempted to go a bit further but same same and walking to Skegness on the opposite coastline did not really seem very appealing. 😂

It was so lovely to catch up with Pia and Paul it had been a long time since we had last seen them. I also got to meet Pia’s granddaughter Athena, a very special little girl who is actually the daughter of my goddaughter Chloe (Pia’s daughter) I’m not generally into kids but Athena was a pleasure to be around and she seemed to like me too!

After a lovely day we went off to find somewhere to park for the night . We ended up in a lay-by about 10 miles away. There was an old AA telephone box in the lay-by. Who remembers them?

Remember these?

We were due to visit some more friends in Lincoln on Saturday and rather than head in their direction early I decided it would be best to stay close to my beloved sea! Maybe I could catch a swim at high tide?

We headed back to Hunstanton the following day and yes I did manage to swim at high tide . We also had a walk round the town and picked up some local info too.

Some info making Hunstanton unique

It takes a while to get your head round The east coast facing west! But if you look at the map it does actually make perfect sense

Map showing that Hunstanton is on the east, with a west facing beach!

After another lovely day in the sun we headed back to the same parking place with the AA phone box. Ready for heading slowly to Lincoln the next day.
