We left Cordoba and headed down to the coast. It was still dry so far and I was excited about the prospect of the sea and swimming again.
We found a place on ‘Search 4 Sites’ app and headed there, it was right on the beach near a restaurant and between Marbella and Malaga, nearer to Marbella. When we arrived it looked really nice but we did get some strange looks and there was no other vans there. I had a look and found it on our other app, “Park 4 the Night” It said not to stay overnight! That explained why no one else was there! We decided to move on.
Fuengirola
We headed back to a place we’d driven past earlier where we’d seen motorhomes parked, it was just on the outskirts of Fuengirola.
It was great, very close to the beach, not far to shops, bars and restaurants and just 2 or 3 km into Fuengirola.
Here’s the beach, and yes finally I was going to swim in The Med

The sea was actually colder than I thought it would be but it was still absolutely lush. So good to finally swim in The Med!
Later in the afternoon, Morocco beat Portugal in the World Cup quarter final. The celebrations that went on along the seafront were amazing, a constant stream of cars beeping their horns and people waving flags. It was great to see.

I think there are a lot of Moroccans living in Spain and perhaps an added element that the Spanish didn’t want Portugal to win!?
The following day was a very rainy morning. Like everyone else we stayed in our van. Finally after lunch it stopped. It was like a mass exodus, everyone came out!
We went for a bike ride along the coast and up to the main part of Fuengirola where there was a harbour. I got to sit on some rocks out at sea in the sun and have a photo!

The next day was a lovely sunny day. The morning was spent inside a shopping centre sorting out a Spanish SIM card! At least it was still nice to have a swim and get some sun a bit later though.
By now we’d got chatting to a Dutch couple whom were at our park up. They told us there was a market the other side of town the next day and invited us to go with them.
It was about a 45 minute walk and the British couple who were parked next to us came along too. It did rain intermittently and we did have to keep ducking under doorways along the way but luckily it wasn’t too heavy.
When we got there some of the traders had packed up as it had been so wet. I did manage to get 2 throws though, one for the bed and one to hang behind the front chairs. I didn’t manage to get any photo’s though as it was too wet to think about and there wasn’t much to take any photos of.
We did go out again in the early evening and had a nice paella .

The following day was another rainy day. It rained most of the morning. Our British neighbours left and decided to head to Portugal
It did stop eventually and I managed to get a swim around lunch time .

By the afternoon we decided to head off too. We were going to head to Benalmedina which was only about half an hour away. It was a service stop where we would be able to fill up our water and empty our waste water and do our laundry.
It was very crowded when we got there, lots of motorhomes! We had a walk round. We were quite far from the beach. We had some tapas which were nice but overall we thought it was a bit too touristy for us.
The next morning we got our laundry done and decided to move on. Our next stop was just the other side of Malaga, right by the beach and also close enough for us to cycle into Malaga.
Our next blog post will start with Malaga.
