Following on from our previous post we decided to head to Göcek. It was about 45 minutes away. We headed to the Marina. We parked up and went for a walk.
It was a really nice place with shops bars and cafes. We stopped for some drinks, then ordered some more drinks then ended up ordering pizzas! It was actually our last night with The Harris’s. The following day they were going to meet another family with children of similar ages. Their children were very excited as they were missing their friends and other children in general.
Sadly I’d had a sore throat for a few days. I ordered a brandy for medicinal purposes. I think it helped. When the bill came we discovered it was the equivalent of £10, or €11.50!

This was the only photo I actually got in Göcek which was a shame but it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area .
The following day we said our goodbyes, which was quite sad after 2 weeks of travelling together .
Karaot Beach
We headed to a beach park up just 20 minutes away called Karaot beach. It was on the way to Fethiye and we were once again meeting up with our friends The Jones’s.
It was an excellent park up, one of my favourites. Right on the beach, lots of space, completely wild and lots of nice people around.
It was also great to be back by the sea with a swimming partner too.

As you can see it was a lovely chilled out park up. I also loved the pebble beach. Exactly what I’m used to and it means there is no issue of sand getting everywhere.
On our 3rd day all was well and I went for a swim. I asked Steve Jones if he’d like to come with and he decided not to, which ended up a good move in hindsight!
Whilst I was in the sea I noticed it was getting a little bit choppy, I carried on swimming and luckily I wasn’t swimming out, just across. It seemed to be getting worse so I decided to turn round and swim back. As I got nearer I realised that there was a problem with The Jones’s awning! It appeared to have blown up over the van!
At that point I decided it was time to get out! Just as the wind had got really fierce, the rain started.
I then saw Dee struggling to hold our awning down. I ran to help him. The arms were all twisted and bent! We had to hold on to it until the worst of the storm subsided which was in fact only about 20 minutes!
Then Dee had to work to get the twisted arms off! He managed to break them free and just about get the awning in. Sadly The Jones’s did not recover any of their awning .

Some photo’s of our bent arms!
This whirlwind came so quickly from nowhere, I can’t believe I was in the sea! It could have been so much worse! A Turkish lady said she’d seen this before and it was in fact a mini tornado!
Over the coming months our friend’s Steve and Elisa Jones did manage to get a new awning. Sadly we did not manage to replace our arms or our awning anywhere in Turkey although we tried.
It seems that the parts and our size awning are not available in Turkey. We were hoping that a motorhome accessory and repair shop in Romania would come to the rescue. It had been recommended to us so look for our Romanian posts
We still really liked the park up though, it was just one of those things. Here’s a few more photos before we moved on .

Once again we said goodbye to Elisa and Steve, The Jones’s. We headed to a park up at Fethiye, after checking out a motorhome accessories place to see if they could help with our awning. They were unsure if they could get parts or a new awning so we left it with them.
Fethiye
We found a park up in Fethiye near a park. Just as we arrived we had some big rain storms. It did eventually stop and we ventured out. Sarah and Paul, the people we’d met back in Foça were there. They’d been there a few days waiting to get their van serviced so they took us for a walk and showed us the sights.

Dalaman
On Sunday we went to Dalaman, we had the name of another motorhome accessory shop to go to near there. We got a park up at Dalaman hot Springs.
The park up was in the middle of nowhere with the exception of the Hot Springs. It’s actually a thermal river . It looked very much like they were in the process of turning it into a paying tourist attraction.
They have turned part of the river into a pool, or at least something resembling a pool and that kind of run into the river. You have to go through turnstiles which at time weren’t in operation so it was free to go there. It definitely looked like this would all change though in the not too distant future.
The part after the ‘pool’ is still the river and was really nice . You could take a chair and sit there in the sun and get in and out of the river too. It was just me who did this as Dee doesn’t like the sun .

In the morning we went to visit the motorhome shop. Unfortunately they were unable to help.
Fethiye-a beach park up and a market
We headed back to Fethiye, but this time to a beach park up. It was much nicer that out last Fethiye park up, mainly because it was on the beach and complete with ducks and a few bars too.
I was surprised to see ducks on the beach, they were really friendly and came right up close .

The following day we cycled across town to go to Fethiye Market. Probably took us around half an hour. The market was really big and it takes place every Tuesday.

The market was in sections, clothes in one section, fruit in another etc etc. I did buy some shorts before Dee got hungry and we got gözleme ( Turkish pancakes). Final stop was getting some fruit before we headed back .
We also saw our friends ‘The Jones’ whilst we were there. They were staying in Ölüdeniz as Elisa’s sister was visiting the area for a week. We decided to head there too the following day .
Our next post will start in Ölüdeniz.

More interesting places to visit and great sculptures at Fetheye. And that stony beach, amazing, but didn’t appear to be colourful, mainly grey?
