Romania – Bucharest

We reluctantly left our beautiful lake park up in Bulgaria and left our friends behind! We knew we needed to start moving as we had arranged to meet friends in France at the beginning of Sept!

Here we are going into Romania and the second photo is of a horse and cart which you tend to see a lot in Romania.

Our first destination in Romania was always going to be a Motorhome accessory shop on the outskirts of Bucharest. It had been recommended by some fellow travellers and we were hoping to finally get our awning sorted out.

If you have read our earlier posts from Turkey you may remember that we lost our awning in a mini tornado at a beach park up. Our actual awning was ok but it was the arms that actually got damaged. No one in Turkey was able to replace the arms or source an alternative awning.

It was however a little bit late to go straight there so we found a park up not far from where we crossed the border and on the way to Bucharest.

The River Arges park up

It was a very wild park up by The River Arges and near Gostinari

As you can see we really were the only ones there!

The Motorhome Accessory Shop

In the morning we headed to Bucharest and straight to the motorhome accessory shop. It was simply called “Motorhome”

Although they were not able to replace the arms, they were able to fit an awning for us. They didn’t have the right size awning for our van but the owner suggested that we have a smaller awning fitted as he did have those in stock. He was also able to add some fans to help our fridge stay cold in the hot weather when temperatures rose above 30 degrees.

We left the van with him and he very kindly lent us a car to drive to the local town and get some lunch. We found a really nice pizza place as you can see in the photo below.

The accessory shop had a large car park next to the shop where they allowed motorhomes to stay overnight, this was a perfect arrangement. The awning was being fitted the following day and once again we were given a courtesy car to use.

We went and looked round the local shopping mall. We were surprised to find a Marks and Spencers there! We were also very pleased when we came out and found rain! We’d been having temperatures of 42 degrees so it was very welcome

At the end of the day our new awning was on but we were told that we needed to not drive anywhere for 24 hours to allow the glue to set. Once again we stayed overnight in the grounds and once again we were given a car to use.

Bucharest

We decided to go and explore Bucharest, the capital of Romania. We also took advantage of the time we had and found a laundry. The middle photo is me grabbing a quick coffee whilst waiting for the laundry.

The Arcul de Triumf in Bucharest, is a monumental triumphal arch that stands as a symbol of Romania’s independence.

It was completed in 1936 and commemorates the unification of Romania and honours the soldiers who fought in various conflicts.

It is 27 meters tall, the arch is adorned with sculptures and reliefs depicting historical scenes. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the city.

Palace of Parliament

The Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania, is one of the world’s largest administrative buildings. It is also an architectural masterpiece.

Construction began in 1984 during the regime of Nicolae Ceaușescu, and it was intended to be the headquarters for the country’s government. It houses numerous government offices and chambers.

The building’s sheer size and lavish design reflect the excesses of its era.

The Palace of the Parliament stands as a controversial symbol of Ceaușescu’s extravagant regime and Romania’s complex history.

We then went and had a look round the Old Town and also to get some lunch.

We took the car back to the motorhome accessory shop and stayed one more night in their car park.

Our next destination is a park up on the river Danube and that is where our next post starts.
