Cahors
Cahors is located in the Lot department of Southwestern France. We arrived in the evening and stayed in a free aire that was also quite central.
The city is known for its medieval architecture including a 14th century fortified bridge and the stunning Cathederal of Saint Etienne
Cahors is famous for it’s wine. It’s a very vibrant place and we were able to wander around the local market and sample the local produce and wines which were all very good. There are also lots of cafes and bars and a great atmosphere.
I didn’t actually get any photos of the markets which was a shame but here’s a couple just from the streets of Cahors .
I did buy some wine and some local honey, both of which were very good.

Bergerac Vineyard
We left Cahors late afternoon and headed a bit further towards Limoges through Bergerac.
Many of the vineyards in France will allow you to stay overnight in a Motorhome for free if you do their wine tasting or wine tour.
This particular vineyard was called Domaine de Montlong. It was a lovely peaceful location. We arrived too late for the wine tasting so we did it the following morning.
It was very informal, one of the workers came into the shop and did the tasting just with us. She explained a little about each wine as we tasted them. It worked out well for me as Dee was driving so he only had a little sip then passed the rest to me ! We ended up buying, red, white and rose!
This was our view for night, it was very peaceful.

After our morning wine tasting session we headed to Bordeaux . We were going to stay at another vineyard. This one was slightly different as they do organised tours of the vineyard followed by tastings at set times. So we needed to book onto the tour at 7pm in the evening. We found somewhere to park between the vineyard and the city and got the tram into Bordeaux to have a look around.
Bordeaux
Bordeaux is the 6th largest city in France, a port city situated in southwestern France.
At the heart of Bordeaux is it’s wine production. The city is surrounded by some of the most prestigious vineyards in the world . There is an annual wine festival and numerous wine tours available.
Bordeaux is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city’s historic centre know as Port of the Moon features 18th century architecture and iconic landmarks and The Gothic Saint-Andre Cathedral.
Bordeaux is also a vibrant cultural city, home to numerous museums, art galleries and theatres. There are also some great lively cafes and restaurants.

By the time we arrived in Bordeaux we only had about an hour and a half to explore as we had to allow for getting the tram back and getting to the vineyard in time for our tour at 7pm.
Above is a photo of us on the tram and of me standing at Porte Cailhau, a famous landmark in Bordeaux. It was built between 1493 and 1496 and, a former defence gate dedicated to King Charles VIII of France. It provides a 23 metre high panoramic view of the river. Sadly we did not have the time to actually climb up it.
We headed to Miroir d’Eau, the worlds largest reflecting pool. It covers an area of 3450 sq metres of black granite on the quayside opposite the Place de la Bourse.

It is definitely worth seeing the Miroir d’Leau, it is very unique.
We would have like to have had more time to wander a bit more around Bordeaux but its also an excuse to go back another time.
Vignobles Pestoury
This is the name of the vineyard where we did the wine tasting tour and stayed for the night in Bordeaux. It was actually very different from the other vineyard we stayed at in Bergerac. This vineyard did actual tours followed by wine tasting at set times. It was very informative. The vineyard was owned by the Pestoury family and had been in their family for 5 generations. The tour was conducted in English by a young girl in her 20’s, she was very knowledgeable about Bordeaux as a region as well the family vineyard.

We did of course buy some of the wine after tasting. The following morning I found a yoga spot before we moved on .
Our next stop was at our friend’s in a village called Saint Germain Les Belles, which is just outside of Limoges . We were so excited to be going to see our friend Michael at his new French House. A few days after we were due to arrive we had some other friends coming from England too.
Our next post will start was we arrive there. If you would like to be notified every time a post goes live then please fill out your e mail below and hit the subscribe button.
